The Good Week: Week 25
Here are a few good things I did or came across this week.
David Hockney died this week, and I was reading about his art. I was familiar with only a couple of his paintings, and based on that I thought he was Californian. I was surprised to learn that he was British! British people do seem to play American better than Americans themselves, like Key and Peele showed.
Started Widow's Bay, seems great. I am easily scared by horror, so I am watching it slowly (only in daylight). Been watching some old shows in the background - Bored to Death (heartwarming and fun - Ted Danson!!), Party Down (sarcastic and fun, and has a star-studded cast).
In school, a bunch of us tried to start a band. None of us knew any instruments, so it was quite a bad idea. There is one wav file I have saved from that era, which I listen to occasionally for the lols. I fed this to the AI song generator Suno, and it created this banger, complete with a guitar solo. We were clearly born in the wrong era.
Been trying to see how I can diversify my investments, given the falling Rupee and the not-so-great domestic stock market (I mostly invest in mutual funds and keep it long term). I was happy to see Zerodha, the portal I use might soon let me invest in US markets. Just in time for the AI bubble pop? Yay.
Read about people doing a full loop of Manhattan as an "ultra-marathon". I wondered how it will be if I do it in Bangalore, so here is the Bangalore Outer Ring Road route. 71.7km, passes through amazing locations such as Marathahalli, Goraguntepalya and Bellandur. Shudder.
Watching random men play a pro women's tennis player was fun. One guy in the beginning thought he could defeat her though he had played tennis maybe twice?? What. I took tennis lessons for a month last year, and it seemed like one needed a LOT of technique to be good at it. I wish they had made all of them play two games though, one serving and one receiving. Would have shown the complete domination better.
I have been trying to bake the perfect basic white sandwich bread, and I feel like I am two more tries away from getting it right. Hopefully I will have the recipe for it ready by next week. Till then!
