The Good Week 29
Here are a few interesting things I came across this week.
A read on how a corporation is trying to monopolize berries with a mission of making them available worldwide in all seasons. I love berries and being in Bangalore, I did not have access to them much earlier, and now it is everywhere. So, mixed feelings about this.
I thought was GPS was accurate only to a few meters, but apparently there is a way called GPS-RTK to use a "base station" to make it accurate to cm-level. Seems to be used primarily for surveying.
Have been checking out science fiction magazines recently and here's a nice short story.
How Starbucks' marketing stunt in South Korea went wrong by accidentally referring to a tragedy in their new slogan. This quote was particularly funny:
Marketers chose the slogan after consulting an AI tool, looking for suggestions, Shinsegae Group said. It turned out some managers who approved the campaign never opened the email attachments showing the marketing material.
Interesting read on dynamics of race in South America and why the rest of Latin America doesn't support Argentina in football.
This write up on how UPI works.
At the IndieWebClub BLR meeting this week, I got some help to add webmentions to my blog. Limited features for now, only showing blog mentions from other websites. Will add more features later. I have also added a webring in the footer so you can discover other blogs.
Leaving you with a picture of a good dog and an evil dog:
