The Good Week 26
Here are a few interesting things I came across this week.
Tasted Whittaker's Nelson Pear and Manuka Honey chocolate for the first time. Amazing.
Krish Ashok's video on how Omega-3 supplements are probably useless? I did a full blood test few months ago and my cholesterol is a bit high. I was hoping these supplements make it a little better.. I guess not. I will continue my climb back up the running ladder and fibermaxxing.
Last week, I saw Thermal and a Quarter live at the Humming Tree. The last time I saw them live was 20 years ago. They still got it! The whole performance made me think of how happy and hopeful art can make you feel.
Here are some Bangalore Blues.

I am travelling for the next couple of weeks, and I am in the Netherlands currently. I saw Vermeer's "View of Delft" in person at the Mauritshuis Museum. I was struck by how much that painting looked "HDR" compared to everything else in that room. Seeing Delft town in in person a day later also added to the charm. Also, so many paintings there had dogs in them!
Here's a new (for me) CCR song I discovered as it played in a nice dive bar in the Hague.
Other random things I learnt here:
- Their food is generally bad, but they have decent desserts. Lots of Indonesian food.
- There was a heatwave here (38C), and I realized houses, trams here are meant to trap heat and have windows which don't really open??
- People are really nice.
- I have feet which need proper arch support while running. I took a running gait test to buy some running shoes, and the lady was really curious about what we thought about the Dutch freaking about hot weather. She also scolded me twice for removing shoes without unlacing them. What can I say, I am lazy.
- Vancouver is named after George Vancouver, an English guy with Dutch origin, whose name would have been "van Couver".
- There are such things as Pink Lemonade Blueberries
- There are two separate people in Greek myth who have gotten the punishment of getting their livers eaten by endlessly vultures - Tityus, and Prometheus.
For the last 9 months I had grown out my hair - I had long curly hair for the first time in my life. Though I enjoyed the novelty of having long hair, I lately have come to think of it as my "depression hair". Before I left for my trip, I went to a nice salon and paid ₹2000 (as opposed to my usual ₹200) to get a proper haircut, and a wash. I'm a new man now!
Found an article on algorithmic media and taste which I thought was great. An interesting analogy mentioned in the article is about algorithmic media feeling like a "driverless car". Where you are being taken to a destination (a feed made just for you), but you have no control over it. I do think actual driverless cars are a generally a good thing for safety, but this metaphor seems quite apt.
And here's a cat who did not want me leaving for my trip.
